Off-campus internship experiences can be an extremely valuable complement to Ph.D. training in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. A carefully chosen internship can help you broaden research interests, and apply them in “real world” settings. You will develop organizational and leadership skills to prepare for a career in academia or beyond. Students can also expect to broaden their professional networks in relevant areas beyond the academy.
This information session is offered for students who would like to create their own internship opportunities in summer or fall 2019, stipended through Versatile Humanists at Duke. (Students interested in pre-existing opportunities with VH@Duke partner organizations will be invited to an information session in early January.) The deadline for all VH@Duke internship applications will be in late January 2019.
Even if you are not planning to apply for the VH@Duke program this year, we encourage you to come and learn more about how to create your own internship (a valuable professional skill!). Former VH@Duke interns will be on hand to discuss how they created new roles and professional opportunities for themselves at organizations relevant to their scholarly interests.
